Jag in the Box
Seen in the Chili’s parking lot today at lunch. My friend Krissy called it a Jackuar, which cracked me up, as Krissy is wont to do. But I believe the correct pronunciation requires a pseudo English accent, and enunciation of the ‘u’. Like this:
Jack-you-aaah.
That reminds me…today I spoke with a Brit on the phone and he sounded so polite and educated. This gentleman used words and phrases like brilliant, good stuff, and jolly good, and to me, it sounded just splendid. When I use the word brilliant, it’s usually to describe someone or something far from the true definition, like an idiot driver who just cut me off on the freeway in his lifted-up, stupid-ass truck that my car could drive underneath without scratching its roof and do you purposely try to look stupid? Because if so, brilliant!
I think your suggested pronunciation is the correct one.
I’ve noticed how much Brits use the word “brilliant” too. And they tend to add the word “absolutely” as well, as on Ground Force(BBC) when shown their new garden space. Everything is “absolutely brilliant.” But that accent gets me every time. No wonder I love all things British so much.
“Brilliant!” and “Excellent!” are two favortie British phrases I noticed during my time in England. I do love all things British… and your pronunciation of Jack-you-ahhh is defintiely correct. 🙂 Cheers!
you all seem to have an unfortunate experience of british accents. though some are admittedly very educated and precise, some sound absolutely atrocious. i should know (i’m british after all) try and hear someone with a birmingham accent, or a newcastle or lancashire accent. then you’d think otherwise. sorry. it just annoys me when people think all britons speak like Hugh Grant, Prince Charles, Dick van Dyke in Mary Poppins or the people on the bbc. Also, very few people use the phrase ‘jolly good’.
Have to agree with Rosie, some of the accents are horrid while others are great. Oh and the the jackuar owner? Jolly good sense of humor. Or is that humour?
